Our air purifier units utilize active photocatalytic oxidation technology (PCO) in which UV light activates a PCO coated honeycomb structure. The air purification units do not rely on air passing through the unit, but actively disperse air cleaning molecules into the surrounding environment. The PCO air treatment system unit actively outputs a continuous stream of multi-clustered ions which attack and destroy contaminants and pathogens throughout the indoor environment. The process is known as active photocatalytic oxidation and it’s safe for both humans and animals.

PCO air purification units substantially reduce viruses, bacteria, odors, smoke, and mold both in the air, as well as on surfaces, which is something that passive air treatment devices, like HEPA filters and passive UV lamps, cannot do. The UV light activates the coating to create molecules capable of decomposing pathogens, nitrous oxides (NOx), carbon monoxide (CO), allergens, odors, and other volatile organic compounds (VOCs) such as formaldehyde and benzene.

Norwalk Virus –This virus is a Norovirus. Noroviridae is a group of related, single-stranded RNA, highly contagious infections and the most common cause of acute gastroenteritis in the United States. Known by other names such as stomach flu and food poisoning, it is responsible for 50% of food-borne outbreaks of gastroenteritis. Noroviruses spread from person to person by direct contact, touching contaminated surfaces, and contaminated food and water supplies.(12)

The effectiveness of Photocatalytic Oxidation Technology: Deactivation of > 90% of Murine Norovirus (MNV) microorganisms were achieved after 4 hours.(13)

 

H1N1 Virus (Swine Influenza) – The H1N1 virus is a unique strain of influenza. The Centers for Disease Control determined that the pressure contained genes from four different flu viruses – North American swine influenza, North American avian influenza, human influenza, and swine influenza viruses typically found in Asia and Europe. The virus spreads from person to person by droplets from coughing and sneezing and by touching a person contaminated with the virus, then rubbing one’s eyes, nose or mouth.(14)

H5N1 Virus Avian Influenza (Bird Flu) – H5N1 has evolved into a flu virus strain that infects more species than any previously known strain, is deadlier than any formerly known strain, and continues to grow, becoming both more widespread and more deadly. Epidemiologists are afraid the next time such a virus mutates; it could pass from human to human. Direct transmission of avian viruses to humans is possible. Testing of photocatalysis on H5N1 was completed at Kansas State University using H5N8 as a surrogate.(15)

How It Works

Our active air purification units employ a proprietary enhancement to the established photocatalytic oxidation (PCO) technology developed more than 20 years ago. This advanced product: Active Photodynamic Oxidation Technology is the foundation of Gas-phase PCO instruments currently being used to disinfect indoor air and surfaces. Gas-phase PCO has been proven to kill many bacteria, viruses, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), molds, fungus, and odors wherever they reside. This is in contrast to some air only purification systems dependent upon airflow passing through the unit or filters. Gas-Phase PCO technology has been proven both safe and effective in laboratory and industrial testing. PCO technology has been licensed for use in medical, food, military, residential, commercial, marine, and hospital applications. They have been approved or registered by UL, ETL, FCC, TUV, CE, and CSA. NASA uses PCO technology on the International Space Station.

Active Photocatalytic Oxidation Technology is licensed for use in over 1 million individual devices globally in the medical, food retailing, military, beauty, residential, commercial, marine, and hospitality industries. The heart of the Gas-phase PCO air purifiers is a low wattage UV light bulb enclosed in a solid structure (the “catalyst”) coated with Titanium Dioxide and other nanoscale elements. When the UV light is turned on, the catalyst is irradiated, and a gaseous state is then created directly above its surface (often called “metastate”). As air passes over the meta state, large clusters of positively and negatively charged ions are formed. As these ion clusters are released into an interior environment, they can be attracted to a negatively or positively charged cell of a pathogen (virus or bacteria), and they can breakdown chemicals such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs). For pathogens, a minute electrical charge is then released, piercing the cell of the pathogen and killing it, even a cell as small as a virus.  For VOCs, the multi-clustered ions chemically transform the VOC into carbon dioxide and water vapor. Our active air purification units increased the effectiveness of its PCO process by its unique configuration and catalyst design.

Our PCO air purification system has further enhanced the microbial-killing effectiveness and efficiency of the original technology by more than 50%.  Unlike other Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Systems (i.e., HEPA filtration, Germicidal UV, UV Robots, Negative Ionizers, Ozonators), Gas-phase PCO products destroy microbes in the air, on surfaces, and in crevices, on a continual basis, with a technology that is safe for humans and animals.

PCO In-Duct units install in any HVAC system directly into the plenum or above the air handler in downstream locations. The Ux200 Series works by converting water vapor and oxygen from untreated air into an active ionized plasma, substantially reducing odors, mold spores, viruses, and bacteria, creating a healthier indoor environment. Untreated air enters the air handler, passes by the PCO Cell, and releases treated air through existing HVAC vents. The hydro-peroxides, hydroxyls, and ions will then act on pathogens inside the space that have not passed through the HVAC system. This is quite different from passive treatments that rely entirely on untreated air to pass by or pass through a system to be treated. Another advantage of active treatment is that exposed surfaces are treated as effectively as the air is treated. The system is working 24/7 providing a residual effect.

Air Purifier Return Policy

If you are not completely satisfied with you purchase of your PCO air purification unit, you have 60 days from the date of shipment to request a full refund. You may return any of our air purification units in accordance with the terms below. The following conditions must be satisfied to qualify for a refund:

  • All returns must be accompanied by a Return Authorization Number. You may request a Return Authorization Number by contacting our customer service team at support@USAnanocoat.com.
  • Products must be returned to USA Nanocoat in good physical condition. Products must not be broken or physically damaged. All accessories originally included with your purchase must be included with your return.
  • Customers are responsible for all shipping charges incurred for returned products. Shipping and handling costs are nonrefundable. Customers assume responsibility for the risk of loss or damage to the returned product(s) when shipping merchandise back to USA Nanocoat.
  • USA Nanocoat retains the right to refuse acceptance of returned products that are not in good condition, broken, or physically damaged. Returned items may be subject to a restocking fee of up to 15% of the purchase price. USA Nanocoat retains the right to deduct the retail value of any missing parts and accessories originally included with your purchase from the refund amount.

 

Warranty Information for Ux200 series

The manufacturer warrants the new UVx reactor to be free from any defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service when operating and maintained in strict accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions for a period of 2 years from the date of receipt of equipment. Although the PCO cell requires periodic replacement, the cell is warranted for a one-year period from date of purchase.

Manufacturer’s obligation under this warranty is limited to repairing or replacing any part found to its satisfaction to be so defective. The manufacturer at its discretion may replace or exchange the defective unit up to 90 days from the date of purchase. Hereafter it will be need to be returned under a Returned Materials Authorization (RMA) for review and/or repair (if found defective). This warranty does not cover parts damaged by decomposition from chemical action or wear caused by abrasive materials, nor does it cover damages resulting from misuse, abuse, or any other than its intended use, accident, neglect, or from improper operation, maintenance, installation, modification or adjustments.

FAQs

This is an active technology. Air need not pass through the unit—or within inches of the device, as is the case with traditional UV devices. With our air purification systems, microbes are destroyed throughout the target environment, wherever they are, whether in the air, on surfaces, or in crevices. Since the PCO products are safe for both humans and animals, it provides continuous protection from pathogens on a 7X24 basis.

The core technology for our air purification systems has been proven through more than 10,000 hours of independent laboratory and university testing and validation. This technology is in use in residential, clinical, and commercial buildings in many countries, and has been used by NASA on the International Space Station to protect the astronauts.

The Ux 105 effectively cleanses an indoor environment up to 5,000 square feet depending upon the pathogen 'load' that is present.

The Ux 105 unit plugs into a standard 110v outlet and uses the same amount of energy as a 25W light bulb. The maintenance costs (the bulb should be replaced every 3 years) plus electrical costs over a three-year period are approximately $150. In comparison, the typical HEPA filter replacement costs and electrical costs over the same period is substantially more, and the filter will not kill the pathogens, and its disposal presents environmental concerns.

Because they destroy individual microbials and the reservoirs in which they multiply, our air purification instruments break not one but two of the critical links in the “chain of infection” cited in Joint Commission infection-control guidelines. Indoor air quality is a priority of both the Occupational Safety, Health Administration (OSHA) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Laboratory and onsite testing confirms a cleansing period from just 20 minutes to 12 hours depending upon the carrying capacity(bio load). Factors affecting the total time may include temperature and the degree of humidity in the air.
